STEP 2 - Creating Promotion Material

Meta Tag generator

Instantly and automatically generate META tags and keywords, and relevant <HEAD> tags, via a web-based interface.

FAVICON
This is a standout item. Use this site to create a free "favicon" that appears in the address bar, and in the book mark list of Internet Explorer.

Gateway Pages
Some engines support META description and keywords tags, some don't. Some index ALT text, some don't...
There are ways to rank high on each engine for different keywords; it's called a gateway page.

Beacon Pages
The new trend in search engine logarithms (the formulas used to rank the relevance of websites to searches) is to measure how many related webpages are linked to a given website. Beacon pages are webpages you create to improve your website rankings by taking advantage of the new rules by linking to your main website.

Search Engine Template Generator
(website) Via a form, this website creates custom portal pages, designed for each search engine.

<META> Medic
Check to see how well you are utilizing your META Tags. Enter your URL and get a free analysis of how your word choices and relevance are. I feel this tool is a little biased, because they are trying to see you a piece of software, but none the less, it is an interesting tool to utilize.

<Title> Naming Pages for Added Exposure
Another great asset is your page title. I don't mean a title like you see directly above. I mean the "title" tag in HTML. It usually shows up at the very top of your web browser next to the browser logo.

Hidden Input
Utilize the <INPUT="hidden" VALUE="keywords"> to hide additional keywords in your documents for search engines that can read them.

Using Keywords Right
Choosing the right keywords is the most important decision you have to make when designing your website. Your keywords must be the focus of your page in order to gain top ranking in the search engines.

Search Engine Optimization Tools
Using the keywords that you expect surfers to use to locate your site, use our Research Tool to locate top ranked sites to create a list of the top one to five site URL's that return from each search. The results are sorted by sites with the most top-25 rankings.

The first step to website promotion is not to submit your URL to search engines (that comes later). Rather, to invest time writing a clear and concise description of the site, selecting relevant keywords, and even banner ads for others to use to link to your site.
Take time to assemble the following information about your new site. Refer to the links for additional information and helpful tools.

Now working with Libraries for the Future, Susan has taken the time to share the answers to some frequently asked questions about capital campaign strategies. Also available in this forum are portions of her speech at the 1999 Fundraising Forum for Public Libraries and Community Not-for-Profit Organizations in the Hudson Valley, an event held at the Vassar Alumnae House cosponsored by the Mid-Hudson Library System and the Foundation for Hudson Valley Libraries.
